WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
My interest in rotary cars started when I was still a young teenager.Since then I've owned two mazdas, both series 1 rx3 sedans. My first rx3 was powered by a 12a bridgeport complete with weber, it had an rx4 4 speed box and a stock diff. The colour was barbados green. While this car was an excellent choice for my first car (I actually bought it before I got my licence), the colour didnt really appeal to me after a while, and together with a few other things, prompted me to sell it in late 2000 to a friend.
It didn't take me long to locate a cleaner example and by early 2001, I had my second rx3 sitting in my driveway.
TUF10A RX3
My second rx3 was powered by a 13b bridgeport, 48mm weber with an extended fuel bowl, series 2 ignition, series 1 rx7 5 speed and a stock diff. The interior was and still is mostly original, the paint is dark metalic green with a blue pearl (Im not sure about the exact colour name) and it rode on 14" gold mesh simmons. It was a very neat example and only needed a few minor touches to complete the picture.
It stayed in this guise for nearly a year, being raced at Eastern Creek twice with the best time a dissapointing 15.2, until I realised that defect notices were not what I wanted to recieve every time I drove the car, so the decision was made to go 12a turbo.
Before the car was taken off the road, however, the simmons had been replaced with 16" momo stars, the motor was dyno tuned on Ric Shaw's dyno (135hp at the wheels), and a burnout video was taken (the day before I pulled the motor out).

GOING 12A TURBO
The decision for me to go for the 12a turbo instead of the 13b turbo was easy. Engineering matters, ease of fitment and a desire to be different steered me away from the more popluar 13b turbo.
A complete motor was sourced from Mr Enforcer Engineering which included a custom exhaust manifold and a new clutch setup after the 13b bridgeport was sold off (Thanks goes out to Adrian and his dad for letting me borrow their engine hoist).
After some tidying up of the engine bay, the engine slotted straight in, backed up by a Toyota Corona 4 speed box. Michael of MIK20B fame locked the standard diff while me and Pete put the centre back in.
Other items of interest include a series 4 intercooler which will be front-mounted, a series 4 or 5 turbo which will replace the stock turbo, completly new fuel system, 16" thermo fan, rx4 radiator, restored dash pad and restored head light and grill surrounds (Thanks goes out to Dave for the surrounds) and chromed bonnet latch and hinges.

FINISHING THE INSTALL
As the car is nearly completed, it will be towed to South Coast Rotary for fitment of a 3" exhaust two extra injectors, Microtech MT4 computer, custom surge tank and finally, a dyno tune.
